Ukulele Sunday Club (Summer Session)
Attend one, two, or all three of our FALL classes! Join a fun group of ukulele enthusiasts to create music together! Whether you’re a seasoned ukulele professional or a beginner who needs to borrow one of our instruments, join us! Just $5 covers the music printing costs for the series and gets you a music packet each time the group meets. If you miss one of the classes you can still sign up and join the next one. Others are welcome to attend for FREE to join in the playing, singing, and fun (with no music packet provided). Introduction to Microsoft Word-Hybrid What is Word?
How can you use it? Join us for this hybrid class that will cover the basics of Word and the kind of documents you can create with the program. If you need to learn how to create a basic letter, write a paper, or create a quick flyer, this class will help you learn how to accomplish that goal. Students will have access to online resources for videos, discussion boards, and assignments during each week. This class is at a reduced price thanks to funding from the ICCB Noncredit Workforce Training Grant. Instructor is Andrea Barbknecht. Fee is $80 $50.

Stargazing at Spoon Events
Join Dr. Allison Roxburgh, SRC Astronomy Professor, and her class for an evening of night sky viewing during the full moon! The large telescope will be set up near the brick SRC sign at the entrance to the Canton campus. Attendees can come and go informally during the event time and view the night sky on their own or through the telescope. Attendees can come to one or all dates! Registration is encouraged, but not required. (Any weather-related class changes will be communicated via email to all registered attendees so it is beneficial to register.) Community Leadership Academy
In this Academy, community members learn about different services and organizations in the community. The Academy is coordinated by Kathy Lock, Mary Williams, and Janice Bruster. These ladies organize the tours to businesses and organizations, and they find individuals to attend the academy. Some of the places the attendees learn about or tour include Spoon River College, Graham Healthcare System, The Canton Area Heritage Center, Canton Fire Dept., Canton Police Dept., Fulton-Mason Crisis Service, Fulton County Jail, Cook Medical, Fulton County Rehab Center, Fulton County Ambulance, Canton Area Chamber of Commerce, Spoon River Partnership for Economic Development, and Canton Main Street. Lifelong Learning Conference
Spend a day learning with friends at SRC. Conference includes: light breakfast, keynote address, 3 informative session choices, lunch, and a vendor fair. JFK: Shadows Beneath the Story
Newly released evidence is unsettling the story we thought was sealed decades ago. This presentation slips beneath the surface of the official narrative, uncovering contradictions, missing records, and quiet distortions that shaped the public understanding of JFK’s final day. Rick Klinedinst will lead the audience through the shadows of Dallas, where overlooked witnesses, altered timelines, and buried details reveal a version of events far more complex and far less settled than we were ever meant to believe. Alaska: The Last Frontier
Alaska is a land of vast wilderness and natural beauty. Besides all of that, our 49th state is full of fascinating and unique stories, lifestyles, history, and people who live much differently than we do here in the Lower 48 states. You’ll experience it in photos from Kevin and Debbie Stephenson’s recent two-week trip. If you’ve also been to Alaska, your recollections are welcome! Instructor is Kevin Stephenson.

ELDT Hazmat Training is coming back!
This program covers all the topics required for federal ELDT certification for commercial drivers. It provides information on loading and transporting hazardous materials as well as emergency procedures and hazmat paperwork requirements. Program also includes the required federal assessment test. This class is a prerequisite for receiving a hazardous material endorsement on a CDL.

Youth-Babysitter CPR/First Aid
This course is designed to equip babysitters, caregivers, and youth with the knowledge and skills needed to respond confidently in emergency situations involving infants and children. Following the latest American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines, participants will learn to recognize and respond to life-threatening emergencies, including cardiac arrest, choking, and common injuries. Through hands-on practice and instruction, participants will gain the confidence to act quickly and appropriately in emergencies, helping to ensure the safety and well-being of children in their care. Instructor is Jodie Foutch.

Community CPR/First Aid
Following the latest American Heart Association (AHA), this course covers high-quality CPR techniques for infants and children, proper use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and effective first aid practices for situations such as cuts, burns, allergic reactions, and sudden illness. Emphasis is on safety, prevention, and quick decision-making in real-life caregiving scenarios. No prior experience required. Upon completion, participants will be better prepared to provide safe, responsible care in a variety of settings. Instructor is Jodie Foutch.

Youth-Healthy Comfort Foods
Discover how to enjoy your favorite comfort foods with a healthier twist. In this hands-on class, participants will create recipes using simple ingredient swaps to transform classic comfort foods into healthier dishes. Participants will create a full day’s menu – including breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and dessert – all while making better ingredient choices. This is a make-and-take class. Participants will prepare recipes during class and take-home samples, recipes, and ideas they can easily recreate in their kitchen at home. This class is designed for kids in 5th – 8th grade. Stop the Bleed
The American College of Surgeons (ACS) STOP THE BLEED® program is administered by the ACS Committee on Trauma (ACS COT) and taught to improve the care of injured patients before, during, and after hospitalization. This training includes a formal presentation which is then followed by hands-on practice. Participants practice applying direct pressure, packing wounds, and using a tourniquet to stop bleeding. Class is $30 or $45 if you want the class and a first aid kit. Instructor is Jodie Foutch.

Healthy Holidays
Celebrate the holidays with festive recipes that are both delicious and healthy! Participants in this hands-on class will learn how to create healthier versions of appetizers, desserts and non-alcoholic drinks, which will be prepared during the class. This is a make-and-take class. Participants will take home samples of the finished dishes and recipes. Whether you’re hosting or joining a holiday party, this class will provide festive recipes to help make your holiday a little healthier. Instructor is Britney Holtman.

HR Essentials for Non-HR Leaders
HR is not just hiring and firing. It’s risk management, culture, compliance, and leadership all rolled into one. This session covers the core HR essentials every executive director, supervisor, fiscal lead, and emerging manager needs to understand. Participants will gain key federal and state employment law touchpoints (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO basics, etc.). Learn what documentation actually protects your organization. Hear about common mistakes that create liability and how to avoid them. A checklist of “must-have” HR infrastructure for compliance and stability will also be discussed.

Cannabis Horticulture Processing
This course will explore the colorful History of Cannabis including the medicinal and spiritual uses through the years. Class will also cover the basic chemistry of harvesting, drying & curing, testing, extraction and processing as well as cooking with cannabis. Contemporary legal issues surrounding the cannabis plant will also be discussed. Students will receive lecture and training in a classroom setting as well as field trips to local grow facilities. Pharmacy Technician PTCB Prep Course
This comprehensive 50 hour program will prepare students to work as a pharmacy technician in a retail or other pharmacy setting and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam. Course content includes pharmacy medical terminology, the history of pharmacy, the pharmacy practice in multiple environments, pharmacy calculations and measurements, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Through classroom lecture and hands on labs, students will review dosage calculations, drug classifications, the “top 200 drugs”, I.V. flow rates, sterile compounding, dose conversions, aseptic technique, the handling of sterile products, total parenteral nutrition (TPN), dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control, billing, and reimbursement. Textbooks are included within the course fee. This program meets the necessary requirements to take the Pharmacy Technician Certified Board (PTCB) – Certified Pharmacy Technician (PTCB) exam. Price: $1499 $750 (Thanks to funding provided by the ICCB Noncredit Workforce Training Grant we are able to offer this at a discount.)

Youth-Spa and Relaxation Workshop
This interactive workshop introduces youth to the value of self-care through relaxation practices and hands-on spa product creation. Participants will learn techniques for reducing stress and promoting relaxation while making a customized sugar scrub and body butter. The workshop provides a fun, engaging environment that encourages wellness, mindfulness, and personal care. For ages 10-15. Instructor is Beth Chatterton.

Threat Evaluation and Reporting Overview
This course will cover the following information:

  • Empower homeland security partners to recognize threats or observable behaviors that may concern others
  • Raise community awareness about targeted violence and behavioral threat assessment and management
  • Build state and local capacity to identify and report the warning signs
  • Help partners understand the resources available to get involved and keep communities safe

Beginners Crash Course to At-Home Welding
Ready to start welding but don't know where to begin? This beginner friendly course will teach you the essentials to welding safely using simple at home setups. By the end of the course you'll be able to complete simple welding projects and a solid foundation to build your skills. Students will learn the basics of welding on Friday and then participate in hands on activities on Saturday. For age 16 and up (with parental permission). Instructor is Allysia Adams.

1960’s Music!
Your Request...Your Favorites. The 1960’s – it was a special time in the music world!  From The Association to the Guess Who… Gary Puckett & The Union Gap to Steppenwolf…The Fifth Dimension to The Mamas & The Papas… and much more. This unique presentation allows YOU to be a big part of it! Just like with Top-40 radio in the 60’s, the request line will be open. Attendees will choose songs from a list of 161 favorites from the era. Then, watch vintage videos of those top stars performing their biggest hits. Looking to jumpstart your career? Take our Fiber Optics Bootcamp!
This program is an intensive, accelerated version of our traditional Fiber Optic training program, equipping you with 3 Fiber Optic Association sanctioned Certifications in 5 Days. No prior experience necessary. This five-day boot camp includes our foundational three certified fiber optic courses--Certified Fiber Optics Technician, Certified Fiber Optics Specialist/Splicing, and Certified Fiber Optics Specialist/Testing & Maintenance. Student must pass both the written and hands on exams to successfully pass this course. Fee includes all books, study materials, exams and 3-year membership to the FOA. Food Service Manager Certification
What is a food manager certification? Being certified as a CFPM means that you have passed an exam from an organization accredited by the ANSI-National Accreditation Board (ANAB) and Conference for Food Protection (CFP). Spoon River College offers the National Servsafe Classes. This certification is required in nearly every state for at least one person in charge per shift at a food establishment or any place that prepares and serves food, including schools and healthcare facilities. This one day Servsafe course is offered by I Food Manager. Course requires study quizzes prior to class. Testing with a 70% pass will ensure a Certified Food Protection Manager certificate valid for 5 years. Completion of this course does not guarantee you will pass the exam. Students are advised to utilize any study materials provided before attending class. Instructor is Wanda Adkins.

Hidden Routes, Heroic Lives-Local Stories from the Underground Railroad
This class uncovers the hidden local routes of the Underground Railroad and the courageous individuals who traveled them. Participants will explore personal stories, regional safe houses, and the networks that made these journeys possible. Together, we’ll examine how ordinary community members became extraordinary heroes in the fight for freedom. Instructor is Rick Klinedinst.

Tea with Taylor
Join local author Taylor Densmore, SRC’s Tiffany Davis,  for tea and to discuss her book, Eutony, a collection of stories on how we deal with trauma and loss. During this class you will join the author while she reads passages from her book and answers any questions you may have including questions regarding the writing process. A discussion will then follow. Bring your copy to get it signed or purchase a copy from the author. Instructor is Tiffany Davis.

30 Hour OSHA General Industry Training
All supervisors, department managers, key line leaders, safety committee members and potential supervisors should be educated in the basics of OSHA regulations. This 30-hour course will help employees understand safety standards and how to apply them in their areas. The course will cover 30 hours of required General Industry topics in 4 days. Our training time is 34 hours, which includes breaks and lunch. Students will receive a 30-hour OSHA General Industry Outreach course completion card. This course is normally $750 but we are able to offer the class at $350 thanks to the ICCB Noncredit Workforce Training Grant. Class is for ages 18 and up. Instructor is Sarah Koester.

Beekeeping Workshop
