This course will explore the colorful History of Cannabis including the medicinal and spiritual uses through the years. This class will cover the basic chemistry of harvesting, drying & curing, testing, extraction and processing as well as cooking with cannabis. Contemporary legal issues surrounding the cannabis plant will also be discussed. Students will receive lecture and training in a classroom setting at the Spoon River College Outreach Center as well as field trips to local grow facilities. This course constitutes one of two courses offered by SRC Outreach that will culminate in a Cannabis Horticulture Certification.

Instructor: Thomas V. Vogel Tom is an SRC biology faculty member whose areas of expertise include Human Anatomy and Physiology, Genetics, Evolution, Science Education and Cannabis sativa Cultivation and Processing.

The Spoon River College Outreach Cannabis Education Certificate consists of two classes. Cannabis Horticulture (Spring) and Cannabis Processing (Fall).
Cannabis education workshops are sponsored by Nature's Grace and Wellness, LLC. This sponsorship allows the college to offer classes at a reduced cost to participants.
