Seemingly overnight in 1942, a major U.S Army Unit Training Center and prisoner-of-war camp arose in a quiet central Illinois farming community to become Camp Ellis. Rick Klinedinst will discuss the many impacts this short-lived city had on the local communities and the war, the variety of professional trainings that occurred, the POWs housed within its walls, and ultimately how it disappeared just as suddenly as it appeared.
