Celebrate SRC’s 60th Anniversary
The 8th President of Spoon River College, Curt Oldfield, will share Canton Community College/Spoon River College’s rich 60-year history, discuss celebrations planned for this anniversary year, and share his vision for the future of this local asset.
 
10-11am: Session I (Choice of One)           
Lincoln-Abe’s Molly
"Scandalous, bipolar, insane, tempestuous...a wildcat?"  Historical descriptions of Mary Todd Lincoln, the wife of our 16th President, have generally not been kind.  Who was Mary really? What was she like as a child and a young woman in Springfield? What contributed to Mary's health issues? Did she play a role in Abraham Lincoln's political life? Rick Klinedinst, MidAmerica National Bank, will help you discover more about our nation's most controversial First Lady. Then you can decide if all the historical narratives have been fair to Abe's "Molly."
 
Eating and Cooking Healthy for 1 or 2
Cooking up healthy and satisfying meals without all the extra leftovers does not have to be hard. Join Andrea Thomspon, your Macomb Hy-Vee dietician, as she presents on Healthy Cooking for 1 or 2.
 
Fraud Prevention
In 2013, Americans over the age of 60 lost about $2.9 billion to financial abuse. Do you know your risk factors? In this session, Lora Felger, Health Alliance Medicare,  will examine the many forms that senior fraud can take and how people can protect themselves from falling victim.
 
Planning a Healthy Future
Lindsey Woodford, RN,  Keena Ashford, RN, and Stacie Mynatt, RN, MDH, will explain the importance of preventative care including Annual Wellness Visits, Chronic Care Management, and Advanced Care Planning. Find out how these can increase your health and independence as well as prepare you for the future.

Daughters of the Steppes:The Night Witches of World War II
Brooks Carver’s presentation conveys the stories of some of the most talented, brave, and resourceful women of their generation, the only female air force to appear in combat. They battled the German Luftwaffe in the skies over Russia, so join them on their missions by night above the dangerous killing filed of that era. Many of them sacrificed their lives while becoming the highest decorated regiment in the Soviet Union.
 
MDH Ear, Nose, and Throat: Is it for Me?
Hear Dr. Jeffery Sparks, DO, MDH, explain sinus surgery, discuss who would benefit from surgery, and how it will positively impact your life.

How to Eat the Elephant Known as Moving
It is never too early to begin preparing for a move. Does the thought of  moving overwhelm you? Learn how to take a bite out of the elephant. Suzanne Ellerbrock, Golden Bridges, Inc., will help you learn how to approach moving with less stress.
 
The Future of Downtown Macomb
Kristin Terry, Downtown Development Director, will present on all the great additions being made to our Historic Downtown. Learn more about the revitalization plan, art projects, and much more!

Romantic Danube Cruise
Join Steve Hopper as he describes a beautiful ten-day cruise up the Danube River from Budapest, Hungary to Nuremberg, Germany. Side excursions were also taken to Vienna, Gottweig Abbey, Salzburg and Munich.

Standing Guard: Protect What You Worked For
Patrick Kolata, Edward Jones, will share strategies designed to help guard valuable assets and protect pre- and post-retirement income. Discusses impact of longevity, withdrawal strategies, anticipating rising costs, reviewing insurance/LTC protection, and healthcare cost concerns.

Adult Fitness Program
Did you know that McDonough District Hospital Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, offers a variety of Adult Fitness Programs, such as, Silver&Fit, Active&Fit, Silver Sneakers, Phase III, and Commit to Get Fit? Join Lori Fox, PTA and Phyllis McLouth, DPT, MDH, as they discuss each one of these programs, which MDH location you’ll find each program, and how they can help you get & stay, fit & active!

Mosaic-Real Life, Real Possibilities
Mosaic has been dedicated to securing the needs of people for mare than 100 years. Devin Kozicki will share success stories of how Mosaic has invested  in over 4500 people in 11 states. Services empower people with disabilities, mental and behavioral health needs and autism, as well as aging adults to live their best life.
